Woohoo! My spools! I found these at this awesome estate sale and while I didn't have any direct use for them I knew some artisan out would find them very useful and inspiring.
My grandmother left me a pile of these and I couldn't bear to part with even one. She taught me the business of every sort of needle and how to make a pie crust so light it almost floats away. She died 45 years ago and I still miss her every day. Thank you for bringing her back to my mind.
Brilliant photo and such an emotive one for me, my grandma was a seamstress and I can remember getting to play with all the wooden spools - making dolls from them! www.alibalijewellery.artfire.com
I used to have some old spools but I never knew what to do with them either. As interesting as they are to look at they just collected dust. I wonder what I ever did with them?...
Oh how I love old wooden spools. They just scream, "reuse me!" "Wrap me with ribbons and twine!":) That would be a bit scary if they actually said that but seriously, old things like that do tell us stories in other ways. Stories from the past. Old things are cool!:)

I love wooden spools. Why all this plastic, plastic, plastic now?

Nice wooden spool - they don't make them like they used to.
